Last week, curriculum leaders across North Carolina came together to connect with colleagues and attend a variety of relevant and timely academic sessions at the virtual NCCAT Curriculum Leaders Conference. As an unprecedented school year filled with uncertainty begins, these North Carolina education leaders gathered to discuss the myriad challenges school districts face that have either been the result of or exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The issues addressed included topics at the forefront of all educators’ minds: equity in the classroom, strategies for remote learning, student engagement, and moving instruction forward this school year. In one session, a panel of speakers discussed how, despite the challenges, the pandemic has also brought positive change, including a purposeful focus on social and emotional learning, new partnerships with community constituents, and an era of collaboration among educators. After a number of insightful sessions, workshops, and thought-provoking discussions, it was clear that the group was filled with innovative and enthusiastic educators with a passion for their students’ success, working to lead change in a challenging time.
As in years past, Certica was pleased to serve as a sponsor for the Curriculum Leaders Conference. Many of the participants were our North Carolina district partners, who use Certica’s proven CASE Assessments to measure student progress and provide teachers with data to make impactful instructional decisions, guide interventions, and personalize the student’s learning experience. We are proud to work with educators across the state to better understand and use data effectively to help each student succeed.
While we missed connecting with our district partners and friends in-person at the Curriculum Leaders Conference this year, we were thrilled to support NCCAT as they continue to provide inspiring academic content virtually. Dr. Todd Wirt, a longtime North Carolina educator, principal, and former superintendent, recorded a message to his colleagues attending the Conference. Check it out below!

“We had a vision of being able to learn from student performance year-to-year in order to tweak our curriculum and to aid our teachers’ professional development, but we didn’t have good access to our data to make educational and curricular decisions. With Videri, data that had been buried in our SIS, or even in various file folders, is now on the dashboard with just a click or two.”
– Melissa Kummerer, project manager at Regents School of Austin, Texas
The dashboards, scorecards and watch lists provide insights into student performance that otherwise would take much longer to realize or run the risk of going unnoticed. These visualizations accelerate our teachers’ and leaders’ ability to make data-driven decisions that help our students succeed.”
– Jonathan Hulbert, director of Accountability and School Transformation at East Central Independent School District, Texas
“The CASE Benchmark Assessments have provided teachers with actionable data they can use to immediately intervene and accelerate student success. Coupled with the power of professional learning communities (PLCs), the data is an invaluable resource that provides teachers with the information they need to break down barriers to student learning. After the first year of using the CASE Benchmarks and the CASE Item Bank, some of our schools saw double digit growth in test scores!”
– Jeff McCoy, associate superintendent for Academics at Greenville County Schools, South Carolina
“Over the past three years, Fleming County Schools has moved from a school district in state assistance to one of the top districts in Kentucky. Our success is attributed to our students, teachers and staff. But we could not have experienced this success without a standardized curriculum and the CASE Benchmarks, the most powerful tool we have in our arsenal. Furthermore, we have worked closely with the CASE team to move student achievement to the highest levels. This is truly a partnership of distinction.”
–Brian Creasman, Superintendent, Fleming County Schools, Kentucky
