Certica Continues to Build Presence in Texas K-12 Education Sector
WAKEFIELD, Mass., October 26, 2010 – Certica Solutions today announced that the company is continuing to expand its customer base in Texas with Killeen Independent School District acquiring Certica’s data certification software, called Certify™. Certify helps K-12 districts pro-actively maintain the accuracy and completeness of data on a daily, year-round basis with an automated process the company calls “data certification.” Certify provides personalized, on-line Data Certification Scorecards™ to school and district personnel, so they can be alerted to data problems on a regular basis.
Understanding the importance of high-quality data for reporting to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and also for district decision-making and planning, Killeen ISD, a district with just over 40,000 students, sought a way to ensure a high level of data quality on a daily basis. Using Certify, the district can now spread the task of data validation activity over time, with a continuous, daily review process, which saves staff significant time and effort during the school year. The district now has a way to monitor and maintain the level of data quality for a range of student, teacher and school information, such as student attendance, course credits, and enrollment in special programs.
In addition, like many other districts nationwide, Killeen ISD is in the process of implementing a new information system, and is using Certify to help reconcile data during the data migration process. Historically, Killeen ISD had developed and manually run hundreds of error reports to check the accuracy of the data in their systems. By using Certify with their new HR/Finance system, Killeen has found a way to institutionalize an automated data quality practice. Said John Evans, chief technology official at Killeen ISD, “by using automated data validation rules in Certify to validate the data in the new system, Killeen ISD is saving a significant amount of time. Now, our staff does not have to re-write all of the manual error reports for the new system, and can use that time for other projects. We saw Certify as a way to improve our business processes and streamline data validation.”
With an active user community in Texas that includes Aldine ISD, Dallas ISD, Deer Park ISD, Humble ISD, Lamar CISD, San Angelo ISD and San Antonio ISD as well as Killeen ISD, Certica Solutions provides hundreds of pre-configured validations for the data required for the TEA’s Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) reporting, as well as other data certification modules that focus on education compliance areas such as attendance, discipline, course history, special education, TEA’s Performance Based Monitoring Analysis System (PBMAS) and student sub-population performance.
